The power of participation

Why charity events can make a world of difference
In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to feel disconnected from the issues that truly matter. Knowing what to do, or how to make a difference isn’t always easy when you as an individual, are trying to tackle a global issue.
However, there are moments when we have the opportunity to make a real difference, to step outside of ourselves and contribute to something bigger. Participating in a charity event or creating one of your own where you have the power to raise funds and awareness for issues that matter is one such opportunity, and it can be a profoundly powerful personal achievement.
Youth mental health is a critical issue that affects millions of young people around the globe. In Australia, 1 in 7 young people aren’t getting the help they need. The challenges they face are often invisible, but their impact can be devastating. By participating in a charity event and raising funds for the Harrison Riedel Foundation, you become a part of the solution, a beacon of hope for those who may be struggling in silence.

The power of participation
When you join an event dedicated to raising funds for youth mental health, you’re not just signing up for a run, walk, or bake sale. You’re becoming an advocate, a voice for those who may feel they don’t have one. Your participation sends a powerful message: “You are not alone.”
The funds you raise directly support our vital programs YourCrew and YourCrew Classroom that provide young people with the mental health support they need at the right time.
Raising awareness, breaking stigma
Beyond the financial contributions, participating in these events helps to raise awareness about youth mental health. It sparks conversations among your peers, colleagues and loved ones; challenges misconceptions; and helps to break down the stigma that often surrounds mental illness. By openly supporting the Harrison Riedel Foundation, you encourage others to do the same, creating a community of understanding and support.

A personal journey of growth
Participating in an event is not just about helping others; it’s also a personal journey of growth. It’s an opportunity to challenge yourself, to push your boundaries, and to discover your own strength and resilience. Whether you’re training for a marathon or organising a fundraising event, the process can be transformative.
The sense of accomplishment you feel when you cross that finish line or exceed your fundraising goal is immense. It’s a testament to your dedication, your compassion, and your belief in the power of collective action.
How can you participate?
Want to support youth mental health? The Harrison Riedel Foundation and Grassrootz have teamed up to simplify fundraising for you. Find an event on our Events page and click “Sign Up Now” to get started. You’ll be taken to a Grassrootz page where you set up your own fundraising page and register for the event. The first crucial step is to click “Start Fundraising” on the Grassrootz page. This will allow you to create your own individual or team fundraising page—this is what you’ll share with friends and family to collect donations. When you sign up for your fundraising page, if the Harrison Riedel Foundation logo isn’t automatically at the top of the sign-up form, you may be prompted to select a charity to fundraise for. You can search for the Harrison Riedel Foundation in the search bar if it doesn’t automatically pop up. Once you have set up your fundraising page, don’t forget to go back and register for the event separately.

If you can’t find a suitable event, you can still support us! Create your own digital fundraising page, or we can help you set up an offline fundraiser. Simply complete our online form to get started.
A ripple effect of change
The impact of your involvement goes far beyond the event itself. You inspire others to join the cause, and you show young people that they’re not alone. This can make all the difference in their willingness to seek support. So, lace up those shoes and start training! And don’t forget to introduce the young people in your life to YourCrew, so they always have someone to lean on.
